San Francisco Sheriff's Office announces jail lockdown due to escalating attacks on deputies.

In response to an increase in the number of physical assaults on deputies and jail staff by incarcerated persons, San Francisco County Jails 2 and 3 are locked down this weekend. Since March 29th, incarcerated persons have injured seven of our staff members. Some of these assaults have resulted in serious injuries.

San Francisco, CA – The Sheriff’s Office is opening the Annex at County Jail #3 in San Bruno in order to make room for a growing jail population. The number of incarcerated persons currently rests at 1,105, which is above last October’s daily average of 835, a 32% increase. Part of the reason for the recent boost in numbers stems from collaborative public safety efforts. 

San Francisco, CA - Thieves claiming to work for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office have been calling residents by phone and demanding thousands of dollars as part of an imposter scam. 

On Tuesday, August 8th at 9:34 a.m., an incarcerated individual housed in County Jail #3 in San Bruno experienced a medical emergency, prompting SFSO and DPH to perform lifesaving measures.

San Francisco, CA – Today, an incarcerated individual housed in County Jail #2 was experiencing a medical emergency, prompting SFSO staff to perform life-saving measures. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful and they passed away; their name will not be released until family members have been notified. The individual had been under medical observation upon booking and remained so up until their death.
