County Jail #4

County Jail #4 is a maximum security facility that houses up to 385 people. Opened in 1962, it is the oldest facility in our county jail system and is located on the 7th floor of the Hall of Justice.

Review jail visiting information

Arrive at the jail 30 minutes before your appointment. Enter the lobby at 850 Bryant St. and take the elevator to the 7th Floor to check in. There are a limited number of lockers available in the lobby to store your personal items.

How to get there

Public transportation 

You can use public transportation, including BART and Muni buses, to get to County Jail #4. 

Finding parking 

County Jail #4 does not have a public parking lot. Be sure to allow plenty of time to find street parking and to walk to the jail. You must arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled visit time

BART schedule

BART runs seven days a week with reduced service on Sundays and holidays. You can buy tickets or Clipper Cards using cash at vending machines located at most BART stations. Select vending machines also accept credit and debit cards.

Muni bus schedule

Muni runs seven days a week with reduced service on weekends and holidays. To pay your fare, you can use a credit or debit card to buy a Clipper Card or get your ticket through the MuniMobile app. You also can pay cash (exact change is required).

If your family member would like to participate in an in-custody program, they will need to provide an action request to County Jail #4 staff.
